About
Lisa: How do you feel? What's inside you right now?
Nelson: Guts... and black stuff... and about fifty Slim Jims.
This blog: What's inside us, how our bodies are constructed, how they work,
and how to optimize them. I believe that many aspects of our health and
physical and mental performance can be controlled with the right mix of
knowledge, lifestyle, and technology. For example, weight, physical
strength, and cholesterol (an indirect influence on cardiovascular health)
are all controllable today with proper nutrition, physical training, and in
extreme cases medication. Many more health issues - cancer and aging come
to mind - will be controllable in the future as technologies such as gene
therapy, stem cells, general biotechnology, and nanotechnology come to
maturity.
The author: My name is Greg. I'm an engineer professionally, and will bring
that viewpoint to this blog (whether I intend to or not). I am not a
credentialled provider of healthcare, athletic performance, mental training,
or anything related, and have no qualifications whatsoever (otherwise
I'd publish in a nice peer-reviewed journal instead of this lousy blog).
However, I do take a keen interest in reading a good deal of literature
on topics ranging from nutrition to physical and mental performance to
synthetic biology. This blog is primarily a way for me to keep notes,
share those notes with others who might benefit from them, and perhaps
learn more from the resulting discussions.
Comment Policy: I'm happy for you to plug your blog or website, but you
have to contribute first. That is, say something that shows you have read
the post and are contributing to the discussion. "Great Blog" posts (or
obvious spam) will not be allowed through moderation.
If you've got something you want to say to me about the blog in general
or some topic other than the posts, comment here.
